Title: “Flying Backwards: The Birth of Official German Air Mail”On May 19, 1912, specially-printed postcards were flown between Heidelberg and Mannheim, marking the first fully official forwarding of mail by air in Germany. In this presentation, we offer conjectures and inferences on various aspects of the event, supported where possible by philatelic evidence.
